The images in this exhibition explore photographers’ enduring fascination with architecture through a series of exceptional black and white photographs from UMMA’s permanent collection. Join exhibition curator and 2015-2016 Mellon Curatorial Fellow Emily Talbot for a closer look at the images on view, and a conversation about the strategies that photographers employ to compose a picture out of complex, three-dimensional structures. Talbot will delve into the ways that photographers have reinterpreted architectural subjects to foreground and exploit the visual and material qualities of their own medium.

Picturing Buildings: Photographers and Architecture, 1855-1985 opens Saturday, May 13 on The Jan and David Brandon Family Bridge.
