Hard Hat Not Required Tour - 700 N Fourth

Tuesday, October 07, 2014 4:30 PM
Tuesday 7 October 2014, 4:30pm
Tuesday, October 07, 2014 4:30 PM
Join architect James Chaffers, FAIA for a tour of his "urban cottage," an addition to an existing 100+ year old near-downtown single-family residence.

Pre-registration is required and the number of spaces available for this tour is limited due to the relatively small size of the building.

Topics to be covered include:
* Site planning issues for urban infill and non-traditional development; turning a single-family lot into a "traditional duplex condominium"
* Construction issues for an addition to a 100yr+ house
* Site design issues for accommodating closely situated trees
* Use of new construction materials including screw piles and Warmboard flooring
* Design of a building to maximize spaciousness and light while accommodating a limited building footprint

After the tour, those who want to continue the conversation can adjourn to Casey's (only a block away at 304 Depot) after the tour for socializing, networking, and discussion.
