A little-known tax deduction that became law with the 2005 Energy Policy Act and was further clarified by guidance from the IRS in 2008 is rewarding sustainable design and putting tax dollars back into the pockets of architects. For beating energy efficiency standards and documenting it, architects get a tax break. This seminar will describe the logistics of the act. The learning objectives of the seminar are as follows:
• Identify the ideal candidates for Energy Tax Certification using the provided information on types of construction achieving certification.
• Learn which components of a building can be analyzed and receive certification with clear and concise matrix which outlines specific features of components in the construction endemic in certification.
• Recognize lighting rules and steps necessary for qualification using lighting rules table.
• Identify which parties could receive the tax credit as outlined by the EPAct by using case studies and reviewing IRS code.
